Where modern science meets ancestral wisdom

You hold everything for everyone.
This is where you learn to be held.

For the woman who quietly knows something underneath is asking for her attention. Who’s held it all together, mastered pain, and can’t continue this way.

Nervous system regulation, emotional intelligence, and ancestral wisdom, for the independent woman ready to learn safety, sovereignty, balanced connection and joy as a new emotional home.

As featured in and spoken at

You can run a meeting through a panic attack and no one would know.

You’re the one everyone calls when something goes wrong, but you feel you have to do it all yourself.

Rest doesn’t actually rest you anymore.

You’ve read the books. You know the words. Your body still doesn’t believe them.

You’ve outgrown the version of yourself that survival built. Yet you don’t know how to reset or who comes next.

You’re the strong one. You’re so tired of being the strong one. You’ve had enough of the same loops.

Something underneath is asking for your attention. You don’t have words for it yet, but you can feel it.

This is the work that meets you there.

When women stop surviving and find their centre, they create, transform, and lead. They live well.

Here's what that looks like.

They make bold career moves

_____________
Launching businesses, changing careers, stepping into leadership. When the nervous system feels safe enough to let go of what's wrong, clarity and courage take over.

They transform their relationships

_____________
Leaving what's toxic, setting boundaries they never could before, showing up in love and connecting from a grounded place instead of a survival pattern.

They lead differently

_____________
In their homes, workplaces, and communities. Not from pressure or people-pleasing, but from a place of embodied power and emotional clarity. A burnout-free place.

THE HOURIA METHOD

Safety isn't soft. It's the strategy

Women Make Waves’ founder, Sonia Houria Essia was named after her grandmother. And the method she created naturally took the same name. One that means freedom in the feminine form. The concept of freedom is embedded in the North African tradition, whose First Nations’ name, Amazigh, means the Free People.

The Houria Method draws from ancestral wisdom because indigenous cultures are the custodians of knowledge that has sustained nations, communities, and nature for thousands of years. The modern Western world has much to learn from these traditions about wellbeing, connection, and what it means to truly belong.

The Houria Method is a symbiotic approach to transformation. It works at the root, with the whole person across three dimensions: your inner world, your relationships, and your connection to something larger. Grounded in nervous system science, emotional intelligence, and ancestral wisdom.

You’ve done the self-help books. The journaling. The pushing through. But your nervous system didn’t get the memo.

The Houria Method integrates nervous system regulation, emotional intelligence, and ancestral wisdom to guide women from survival mode into grounded, creative, powerful action. For individuals, it’s the path home to yourself. The path to self-liberation. For organisations, it’s Symbiosis: the same principles applied to how teams communicate, perform, and sustain themselves.

The method that is distilled in the Inner Power Mentorship and every workshop leads to become more Resilient, to feel a deep sense of Belonging and capable of taking the steps towards your goals in a way that is Sustainable.

Women Make Waves' Founder

About Sonia

I’m a French-Tunisian nervous system and emotional intelligence coach, breathwork facilitator, and the founder of Women Make Waves. I’m also a former international commercial lawyer. I’ve sat in the rooms where high-performance is rewarded and the body’s signals are ignored. I broke inside one of those rooms, until a surfing accident broke my back and forced stillness on me.

What came out of that stillness became The Houria Method, named after my grandmother. I built it from everything I know: nervous system science, emotional intelligence, and the ancestral wisdom of my Amazigh lineage, a heritage I had to reclaim before I could name it. That reclamation is where my own sense of strength and belonging came from. It’s also why this work holds.

I don’t ask anyone to choose between rigour and reverence, performance and presence, modern science and ancestral wisdom. I hold all of it, because I had to learn to hold all of it in myself first. That’s the work I do with every woman who walks through these doors.

“A woman who has only ever known survival has no template for ease. She has to learn it.” – Sonia Houria Essia Rivas

The Sahara project

Retracing the Footsteps of My Ancestors

The Sahara Project is a solo expedition to retrace ancient Amazigh trade routes across the Sahara Desert. A journey of ancestral reclamation, cultural preservation, and radical self-trust.

It’s the ultimate practice of everything I teach: regulating my nervous system under extreme conditions, trusting my body, and walking in the footsteps of the women who came before me.

This project exists because of the inner work. Years of emotional processing led me to reclaim an identity that wasn’t named in my family, my Amazigh heritage. That reclamation became the Sahara Project.

This isn’t just an expedition. It’s proof that the work works.
